FR 5. August 2011
At 18h the clouds were omnipresent in and around Basel Stadt and Land. There was a concentration of clouds right above Wasserfallen! All Gods of rain, Thunder and Storm had reunited and decided against us.

I was about to cancel the trip. But finally I decided to take the tram and go (leaving my bike home for once...I didn't want to start the evening all wit like on my return from Gempenturm.
Next obstacle was to get a ticket...but there was a long queue....
Then there was the SBB man who was not sure that the Gondelbahn would go up (and indeed the Sunset event is not known by the ticket reservation system which thinks the last Gondel is at
18h), So he called some people around, and it took quite a time before he was covinced.
It was 1 minute before the train would leave so we missed it. And with the next train I knew we would be too late...my original planning and timing did not have a safetymargin. It had
stopped raining on arrival in Reigoldswil.

From there is a 15 minutes uphill walk to the Wasserfallen Gondelbahn Talstation.
Reigoldswil village seems to be like an artists village. There are shops with decoration, paintings, a white pergola covered living room outside with a cat, nice gardens and Bauerhof facades with ornaments, benches and a lot of stuff that nobody seems to be worried about that it could be stolen (that happens only in our twisted European minds, not in Swiss minds).
With the Goldelbahn it took again like 10 minutes and it was 20h50 when we got out.

The sky was dark with clouds, and only here and there the sunlight would come through. We made some pictures "au hasard" and we would see on the PC screen how they looked like.
We had a walk around to discover the area. We were not at the top yet. So readers, be prepared, when you get out of the Gondelbahn you probably need 30 minutes extra to get at the top and the right place so actually see the sunset.
When we went back to Reigoldswil, we had a "Hinbeercocktail". (the waitress didn't even know they had it!) But it was nice, with the lights a bit lower, sofa's to hang around, lasereffetcs, and music. A real change from the Basel Office ambiance.

So, after all and despite the heavy clouds it was a very successfull evening. next time we'll take a full afternoon to get up there and walk around, and be prepared for the evening to take real sunset pictures.
Sunset Events in Wasserfallen are every first Friday of the month
Next one is 2nd of September, and last one is 7th of October
