About me:

M, 57. Married.

My very lovely wife and 3 children live in my home country, while I explore life in Switzerland and Germany, till we decide on a definitive place to stay here (or not, who knows...)

Occupation:

I am since a few months working in Basel, where I rent a hause in the Hirzbrunnen area. from there it's about 2 kms to the office. As an IT consultant I am involved in projects for the pharmaceutic industry worldwide. I am specialized in the Global Reporting, Dashboards and KPI's on behalf of the HR Personnel Directorate and the HR Business Partners.

Transport and Travelling:

When the weather is not too bad I'll always travel with my eBike, else I take the tram. I decided for sure not to have a car here, nor the so popular scooter, nor a motorbike.
The Regenradar (Mindbox on Jimdo) tells me when I may expect rain in the Basel area or whether it's safe to get out without a raincoat.

Way of living:

Due to circumstances (I arrived here in Basel during the Basel World trade fair) I had very few resources and had no "pied à terre". All hotels were fully booked, and there were no B&Bs nearby either. Finally I found a room in Schönau in Schwarzwald, 1h45 from Basel.

So in the beginning I adopted a very simple way of living. Almost all what I need I decided to service out. Such as my laundry, eating, entertainment. I maximize the reuse of materials which I paid for, such as paper and plastic bags, glass. And I minimize waste, especially waste of food. I keep track of my expenses and know exactly the daily cost of my stay here in Basel.

I also found out what a person really needs to "survive" in a city (I am not considering going to the middle of Borneo...). A roof to sleep under, water, food, clothes. Nothing stressed me more, even scared me in some way, than not finding a room to stay in for the night.

By the way, I am all settled now, and nothing feels better than taking a warm bath, put "wet look " gel in my hair, shave, and put on some stylish casual new or fresh washed clothes. This is the pinnacle of luxury for me (not for all of you too?). It makes you feel worthwile living. If you can then find something useful to do, such as helping people in your immediate neighbourhood that need it, this gives you a great feeling.

Hobbies:

Touring with the eBike.

Kiting on a windy beach. (*)

Skating (rollerblade).

Badminton.

Used to do, some time ago...

- a lot of tennis (especially during exams when there were no classes to be attended)
- mini-football (teamsof 4 without goalkeeper, and with icehockey-sized goals)

(*) I do also build my own kites, such as the unique "AirShield"

Favorite quotes

I do not always know where I heard or read these. Feel free to let me know if you know.

For the moral bits, see lessons learned.

  • Les signaux sexuels des femmes sont trop subtils pour être compris par un homme
  • Never ask a man what he is thinking. He thinks of nothing, or of sex.
  • Regretting something is the second error you make
  • Shake the hand of a person you made happy, and be sure something of it sticks on yours.
  • Give always the good example, because this is what your kids will do later after a turbulent adolescnce
  • Respect your wife, dress well, make yourself "lovable". She will dress up for you, and love you like no other (says the Bible)
  • Marriage lasts as long as you can make her laugh at least three times a day, and spend at least 3 hours with each other every day (excluding the night!) (said BaslerBiker)

And of course : MIGROS - Ein M besser - Without them I wouldn't be alive anymore.
